Praise I can give is that 8 players was cool, the enemy density is great, the bosses felt like bosses, rewards were great, and I actually liked how it used the Warzone playspaces. It was never 'God, I want to fire up Guardians to play some Firefight'. My engagement with it usually consisted of playing a single match or two as a reprieve from Halo 5's competitive multiplayer. It felt more like side content than a major pillar of the game. Halo 5's Firefight could not sustain that. ODST and Reach I could play for hours on-end - they could have been their own $20-30 title. Halo 5's I consider the weakest of the 3, as it felt like a neat piece of side content, rather than a full feature of the game. In giving all this flexibility, I felt this element was kinda undermined. In ODST it felt like an achievement to last x rounds, waves, sets, achieve x high score - something to compare and contrast with friends. There was beauty in the simplicity of ODST's single mode firefight. Reach's was similarly great, though something was lost in the process of giving players the ability to customise their firefight games. This game has a high replay value, and is a must-get for anyone who wants a game where they can take time to explore and relish details of a larger story.ODST was the best horde mode that generation until Black Ops came out 1 year later. The game is challenging and immensely fun. At first I had a hard time actually liking the characters, but as the game continued on I felt like i fit in among them, and I felt for them and connected to them. The story is very interesting, and enjoyable. I think more people would have appreciated the game more than way, especially with how the plot progresses and then ends. The stakes seem higher, and I almost wish this game would have been called Halo: ODST so it could have been a $30 tie-in special release in between Halo 2 and Halo 3. You can explore the city and uncover interesting side-stories from a civilian perspective of the attack, and you experience -block-tp-block fighting against occupying covenant forces. You can see Covenant ships hovering nearby and laying waste, you see human soldiers scrambling in guerrilla warfare against alien invaders. Halo: Reach chronologically takes place before Halo: Combat Evolved and sheds some light on the events that lead up to opening of Halo: CE. Halo Combat Evolved, Halo 2, Halo 3, Halo 3:ODST, Halo: Reach and Halo 4. You dwell among the dark, dead ruins of one of earth's greatest cities: New Mombassa. Playing them in the order they released, to me, would be best. The Human-Covenant War takes a heavier toll as you literally feel and experience the War from a purely human perspective. ODST takes a mysterious, suspenseful approach in a fantastic tale on how ODST struggle to save Humanity from the invasion of the Covenant. Instead of vast, galactic battles with epic proportions, ODST tells the small-scale story about the lives of brave and honorable men and women who would have otherwise been considered insignificant. ODST slows down the fast pace of Halo story telling to focus, in detail, on the episodic encounters of surviving members of an ODST unit. The story-telling is vastly different, but once you get used to it only then can you appreciate it. The cut-scenes have a more cartoon-like feel to them, and the game is amuchdarker in tones. The art style and color palette are totally different from Halo 3. For those expecting the standard, stellar Halo-style experience they will be somewhat disappointed. Multiplayer: All the traditional features of Halo 3 multiplayer will be included in the new game, including full-featured integration with the Forge map editor. While not as large or supernaturally gifted as their Spartan comrades, these Hell Jumpers more than compensate with their ferocious attitudes and unwavering nerve. Follow the story of the legendary ODSTs or Orbital Drop Shock Troopers as they drop into the ruined city of New Mombasa, looking for clues behind the Covenant's catastrophic attack on the city. The gripping story, cooperative campaign and new multiplayer content will have Halo fans "Preparing to Drop."
